Posh Lyrics Quiz
Lyrics paraphrased into longwinded snobbery
So if I say:
“I say, is there someone within? Please confirm. Is someone residing here?”
You would say “Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd.
Or if I go: “Please inform you of that which you desire, that which you absolutely, absolutely desire. I wish to inform you of that which I desire, that which I absolutely, absolutely desire.”
You’d think “Wannabe” by The Spice Girls.
Get it? Good.
…..aaand……… GO!

I got number 4. The rest of them will dog me for the rest of the day.
February 7th, 2006 at 12:27 pm
Ooh, and I just got number 5 and number 7.
February 7th, 2006 at 12:38 pm
Hmmm…..
I’ve got No.2, but a lot of the others feel as if they are just on the tip of my tongue.
February 7th, 2006 at 12:57 pm
Send ‘em round.
Posh lyrics.
February 7th, 2006 at 1:26 pm
Let’s see…
1. Brown Sugar, Rolling Stones
2. Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Beatles
……
8. You Shook Me All Night Long, AC/DC
For the rest… I got nuthin’, though a couple seem very familiar, like Clair said.
February 7th, 2006 at 1:32 pm
Oh!
4. Feelin’ Groovy, Simon and Garfunkel.
Dammit, this is hard and I just woke up. I’ll get you for this, Cliff. Waitt’l Leemer or the Steamer ( The KING of ALL Lyric Games ) gets here. THey’ll show you!
February 7th, 2006 at 2:30 pm
Ed - I’m not commenting yet, but I will say that at least two of your guesses were wrong.
February 7th, 2006 at 3:56 pm
Oh, REALLY>?!?
Hrmph. They weren’t GUESSES. I just got confused between ‘Sgt Peppers’ and’ A little Help from my Friends’. It could happen to ANYONE!
And ‘Feelin’ Groovy’ is otherwise known as ‘The 59th Street Bridge Song’, if it makes you feel any better. Or Groovier. Or somesuch.
There. You happy now?
I’m NEVER wrong. Just misunderstood;)
February 7th, 2006 at 4:07 pm
No 3, of course. Maybe no 7. The others… dammit. I’ll get ‘em. I will. Full guesses when I have a few more of them.
February 7th, 2006 at 4:11 pm
Ed, ed, ed, ed, ed
Brown Sugar is the wrong one.
And number 4 ain’t Feeling Groovy, or The 59th Street Bridge Song, but that’s just me being pedantic.
I am enjoying this more than you.
February 7th, 2006 at 4:57 pm
Okay. Team effort here. We have 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7, fer shurrrr. And we’re officially going nuts over 1 and 5.
Grrrr.
February 7th, 2006 at 5:17 pm
Bollocks. 1 and 9 continue to elude. None of the obvious guesses are working out.
So the rest, meanwhile, are:
2. Sgt Pepper, Beatles
3. Like a Virgin, Madonna (can’t believe no one else has guessed it, this was the only easy one)
4. Caught Stealing, Jane’s Addiction
5. Debaser, The Pixies
6. Up on the Roof, James Taylor
7. Feeling Groovy, Simon & Garfunkel
8. She shook me all night long, AC/DC
Must. Find. The others.

Number One is ‘Honky Tonk Woman’. What an idiot I am. I tie those two songs together forever because I was once in a band that did a Stones medley and those were the frist two songs in it.
If Number 7 isn’t that Simon and Garfunkel tune that goes, ‘Slow Down, you move too fast, you got to make the mornin’ LAST’, then I’ll eat my hat.
I know I know. It’s not number 4.
Shaddap.
Is number 9 ‘Fire and Rain’?
No, can’t be. ‘Traveling Man’?
Nah.
Pooh.
February 7th, 2006 at 11:30 pm
Is No.9 “Heard It Through The Grapevine”?
… no, doesn’t work. Pants.
February 7th, 2006 at 11:46 pm
Utter failure on my part, but a great exercise.
1. No clue, but I think I was there that night.
2. “Sgr Pepper’s etc.” The Beatles
3. Pure guess… “A Sort of Homecoming” by U2?
4. “Been Caught Stealin’”, Jane’s Addiction
5. I’m sure it is wrong, but thanks anyway for getting “Hold Me Now” stuck in my head.
6. No clue, again, and I’m sure it is not the song that first came to mind.
7. “59th St. Bridge Song” by Simon and Garfunkel. (I alluded to this one in a recent entry, so it was top of mind.)
8. “Shook Me All Night Long” (or somesuch) by AC/DC
9. No effin’ idea.
Thanks for posting this, though. Time to hit “publish comment” and to check out the other answers…

Isn’t it tomorrow in Cliffland already?
February 8th, 2006 at 12:52 am
Number nine - ‘So Lonely’ by The Police.
I lost track of the others that hadn’t already been ‘got’
February 8th, 2006 at 12:54 am
Oh - it’s a great game, by the way. I am a bit cross I didn’t see it until now.
February 8th, 2006 at 1:38 am
Oh. My. God!
I got one!
When I first saw this list I thought ‘Oh shit!’ because I would have to try to do it. Hated it but clever all the same.
All I could come up with was worse versions of the posh ones. Things that had no connection whatsoever with any songs I’d ever heard of.
Then I suddenly felt a familiarity over number 7!! Yayyyyy me!
I’m really shite at these things. I even opened my ‘Notepad’ cos I knew it’d be trouble!
Number sevennnnn! Whoohooo I got one! I got one!
)
