Suffering with a cold - Part 3 (Last Part)
I paid a visit to the website of advertising agency JWT, whose page boasted:
Kimberly-Clark has unveiled a 3m pound television campaign to back its new Kleenex Anti-Viral range of tissues. The company claims it will be its biggest campaign for ten years. The ad, which breaks next month on terrestrial and satellite channels, has been created by JWT. It features a gentle and “well-meaning” Guru, a hippy-like character who consciously avoids harming living creatures.
Ah, so he’s a hippy.
I feel so stupid. I thought they were using religion, Buddhism in particular, to employ a stereotype promote their product and cash in. My mistake. I feel so stupid. My God - er, I mean - well, you know. I get it now.
Those of you who have been reading the posts this week may have been misinformed. He’s not a monk. I should clear that up. He’s a hippy. Here’s a picture of him from the ad:

Whereas this guy right here is a monk:

So that’s cleared that up then.
Cheers all.

Ha! That’s no hippie. That’s Buddhist music, a Japanese bridge, a Buddhist bonsai tree; it’s Buddhist as all get out!
Don’t relent, Cliff! This is typical Buddhism stereotyping that doesn’t stop. While it is based on ignorance, it is also not something that is adequately resisted. If Buddhists were African Americans, we’d still be sitting in the back of the bus. Buddhism needs its Rosa Parks! its MLK!

Oh, he’s not really a buddhist, he’s a bhuddist. A Wanna-be-Buddhist . You can tell by the way he looks up after he sneezes. Dead giveaway.

By the way, what DO you say to a buddhist who’s just sneezed?
I’ve always wondered.

Thought he was a jainist myself - though I suspect much of the population wouldn’t know what that is, and maybe not even the ad agency.
One of the most annoying things in the ad is that the monk regrets using the tissues - how is this good press?

gareth…
doubt he could be an ordained Jain. The Swetambara, “White-Clad” most often wear face masks to prevent the inhalation of small creatures, which would also prevent them from using this product. I am certain he is not a Digambara, or “Sky-clad” monk, for he is most certainly wearing clothes!

Looks like you’re right Bodhiwater.
It was the killing bacteria comment that suggested that to me - as Cliff pointed out in his origional post - most Buddhists use bleach (although I do know some that refuse to…)
I’d never actually seen what a Jainsist monk looked like until I googled, after reading your post.
Hope you can forgive me.
Thank goodness for forgivness, eh?

I hope I didn’t come off sounding rude. I meant the comment lightly. If so, it’s I that must ask for forgiveness…. Your assumption is in the correct line, however. The Jain path of ahimsa, nonharming, is far beyond anything I have ever witnessed and continue to marvel at.[try to find a picture of a Jain with a whisk-broom and mask. Though hard to find, it should be worth it]

Not at all!
I shall ferret around for a picture, thank you
Best Wishes
