On Toblerone
I had to go and mention Toblerone yesterday and now I’ve got a song in my head. It’s a James Taylor song called “October Road”, which sounds like “On Toblerone”. This changes/ruins the mood of the song completely.
Oh, promised land
and me still standing.
It’s a test of time.
It’s a real good sign.
Let the sun run down right behind the hill
I know how to stand there still till the moon rise up
right behind the pine, oh lord…
On Toblerone
And then I’ve got this ad in my head of countryside with a big Toberlerone logo over it.
Like that Cadbury ad where they took the Bobby McFerrin song and changed the words “Thinking about your body/Thinking about your face” to “Thinking about your chocolate/Thinking about your taste“. And I like Bobby McFerrin!
This was before he did radio-friendly ear-tat like “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”. Now if you want jazz acapella you’ve got to listen to Jon Hendricks.
If they do an ad with James Taylor and Toblerone, I am getting the first flight out of here.
And if I land at an airport with giant Toblerones in it, I’m getting straight back on the plane and I’m going somewhere else.

Hi there.
Found your website and enjoyed your sense of humour. I remember getting the words of a song wrong for years. It was a Shari Lee Lewis song I think which was “mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy. a kid’ll eat ivy too, wouldn’t you”. But for years I sang gobbledy gook because I had no idea the words meant anything. I sang “mareseedoats and doeseedoats and littlams eedivy, a kiddleeedivy too, wooden you.”
Thanks for reminding me of it.

Now you’ve got me humming the Toblerone ad jingle from 1982-83, which ran constantly on Channel 4 as they didn’t have enough ads to fill up the breaks properly. (It was always that or Jane Seymour flogging Interflora.)
“Toblerone, out on its own. With triangular chocolate, that’s Toblerone! With triangular something and triangular trees, and triangular birds and triangular bees, and Oh! Mister Confectioner please, give me To-bler-one!”
