Willow growls like a dog if anyone knocks on the door! (we're both hermits - he's doing well!)

Sukey 'swears' and threatens him vocally every time she has to cross the room he's in - because he'd always launch himself at her and ambush her! I've no clue what she's saying but it's not pleasant!

Three cats - black moggie has huge range of chirrups, mrrrows, prrows, brrps etc, and a good conversation can always be had with her. Black-and-white cat - one loud noise, which equates to a shout of "feed me NOW, you stupid two-legged object!". White-and-black cat - says "squeak?". That's it. Every situation elicits "squeak?" Maybe she's a very large and furry mouse ...?

I had philosophical discussions with my cat Lil. She had a vocabulary of around 100 sounds. It scared me when I realized that she was using the same sounds in the same situations over and over and over. I'd ask a specific question and she'd give me what I took to be a 'yes' sound' or a 'no' sound depending on the situation, she had 'I don't know', 'Maybe', 'I'm saying no but it's a lie' ( that came a lot when asked if she messed the carpet ) , a sound for the other cat Opie, a sound for greeting me at the door, a sound for when I left...
It was truly astonishing, once I satarted paying attnetion.
And then she up and died just when teh conversation was getting good.

I miss cats. I tend to prefer dogs, but there's a lot to be said for a really good cat.

I have this conversation with Pickle fairly often:

Pickle: Brrrp

Me: What's that you say?

Pickle: Mrrp

Me: There's two children trapped? Where?

Pickle: mmrrbrrp

Me: Down the old mineshaft? Oh noes!

etc.

She's a very talkative cat. In fact, one of my favourite things is that she sometimes saunters past the open door to a room I'm sitting in, and as she goes past she goes "mmbrp?" which I think MUST be cat for "ey up" or "'sup?" - just registering my presence, no action required.

Your life, Cliff... one long party! ;o)

Seriously, though, we have a pair of Siamese cats and I speak to them in a similar way, although I must confess I haven't had that particular conversation with them yet. There's always tomorrow evening
