Weekend Song – Nina Simone

Nina Simone – Suzanne
This song is one of my favourites – all heartfelt, proud and understated. Carly Simon said that love comes and goes, but love not allowed to run its course just burns on in a heart forever.
It’s a beautiful tune, subtle and powerful. You forget that it’s long, that it’s a trio, that it was written years ago; that even you have felt like this.
Just when you mean to tell her that you have no more love to give her,
she gets you on her wavelength and she lets the river answer that you’ve always been her lover

wonderful stuff…
Couple of days late, been catching up and stuff. But bloody hell that Carly Simon quote totally stopped me dead. Is that from a song? Amazing when words just stop everything like that.
Hey Quick – that is from a book called “James Taylor: Long Ago and Far Away” By Timothy White. Carly Simon said it in an interview talking with the author in reference to her marriage and divorce from James Taylor. Worth picking up if you’re a fan, it’s better than most music biographies.
Thanks for this (is this). I spent a lot of time last night reading Carly Simon lyrics and couldn’t find that line anywhere. Now I know why. It’s a brilliant line. Probably shouldn’t have overshadowed the Nina Simone line, but for me it did.
After reading all those song lyrics, some spilled out of my own fingers, put tears in another person’s eyes. And I want to do more.
The magic of words and the Internet huh? Love it.
