Boing

Remember this?

November 24 - I was told this week I will be made redundant as part of a restructure at AOL UK.

Well, I’m still not sure how it happened, but I have been offered a job as a senior manager for BBC News.

I’ll be working in the new media division - it sound like a great job, it’s a good step up, the office is amazing, it’s one of the best news websites in the world and they want to work on ways to make it better.

Thanks for your encouragement before - it really mattered and I wanted share this back to say thanks.

I’ll delete this post in a couple of days because I don’t want to gloat while other people here (or anywhere) are losing their jobs with nothing lined up, or leave it online to make for my future or current employers feel uneasy. But how about this year, hey?

You ROCK, CLiff. You just effin’ rock. I’ll want some urls to see where your work might show up.

  2. Katy Newton Says:

    DOOD.

That’s fucking amazing. Really. And no one deserves it more.

  3. Mark Says:

Congratulations. I filled in one of those popup-up surveys on the BBC News site just the other day letting them know what I thought of the site and what I thought it needed to make it better. Clearly, my input was of such low usefulness they decided the “ask random visitors” approach wasn’t working and Plan B: Actually Hire Someone would need to be put into effect.

Great News Cliff! As it’s a site I visit regularly, I’ll be keeping a beady eye out for exciting innovations!

  5. Pete Says:

Good work, fella. You took a bad situation and turned it into something positive. Ain’t that a man?

  6. Wendy Says:

Nice one - AOL’s loss is the BBC’s gain.

Thanks Ed, Wendy, Katy, Jonny, Anna, Kathryn, Sam, Z and Chariwoman.

Mark, there are some very good people there who also seem to know there is a lot to be done, but they are asking people their opinions. That makes you my boss.

Mr Angry - Thanks, and good question. I really don’t know.

  14. Ed R Says:

we can’t just leave 13 good luck comments now can we?
CLiff, please please please never allow a headline that’s got nothing to do with the story, or is nothing but a smart-assed remark. The ‘editor’ at Reuters doesn’t even look at the headlines on the stories, sometimes. They’re horribly unprofessional. HEadlines aren’t a joke.

  15. Cliff Says:

    No, Ed, you’re right.

    This just in from Reuters.

  16. Sam Says:

Somebody was bored at the office…

I hope TiT won’t be forced to suffer unduly, Cliff - will you still be riding to work on the Big Grey Fun Bus? Think of the fans…

  17. Scaryduck Says:

Grand work there Cliff. Welcome aboard.
