Weekend Song - Seu Jorge
Last week I wrote a little about singing in Portuguese. I have mentioned this before but it’s mesmerising. It’s a lovely language to sing in. It’s a drunken Cornishman. It’s the hypnotic swishy swishy of a washing machine set to lyrics.
And when you mix that with an acoustic guitar, you’ve got something special.
I always think the mark of a great song is that you can do a version of it in another style and it still holds up.
I’ve said enough. You’ll like this.

If you want further proof of the brilliance of Life On Mars (in Portuguese or otherwise), grab yourself a Playstation and a copy of SingStar Legends - it’s the most enjoyable song to sing - whether or not you’re rubbish at it.

Adam. I am SOLD.
I think this version might need a few listens for me to learn to love it, but I shall persevere. It worked with porridge. There are few songs I consider untouchable, but this might just be one of them.
I like his cheeky bit at the end, though.

I take it you’ve seen The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou then.

Wait. Hold the phone. Cliff, are you saying you can speak Portuguese? I’ve just discovered how lovely that language is (after the first initial head-fuckage).

Kathryn - no, I can’t speak Portuguese. I means it’s a lovely language to be sung to in.
Wish I could though, if only to stop mishearing lyrics in the above. “Davy Moyes in Miami jihad. Mention soy photos, poet-san. Wenger linguist, Kerouac in Washington.” That can’t be right.
Mark - Bingo.
Wendy - I love the way he sounds like he’s not bothered and he’s still rocking it.
Adam - Brilliant it is.
