Midweek Song - Tragically Hip
What?
The Midweek Song. It could work.
Of all the songs with today’s date in the first line, this is probably the saddest and, often by my own misguided reckoning, the most beautiful.
This from Canadian influential songsmiths Tragically Hip.
Dateline? Yep. Lyrics like a homespun Under Milk Wood? Yep. Favourite Shakespeare character namechecked? Yep. Gutwrenching, soulful, bittersweet honesty? Yep. Beautiful acoustic guitars? Yep?
OK.

One of my favorite bands… and you picked one of their best.
Also, check out “38 Years Old” if you haven’t heard it.

I love that song. I like the Road Apples album and New Orleans Is Sinking but I will check that one out.

I was doing work experience at a noted instrument hire place in Kings Cross when I was about 16 - my dad got me the gig. I was on reception. I idolised the real receptionist, who was tall and willowy and wore black leather trousers and high leather boots. She played Road Apples and Fully Completely back to back, and taped them for me. I still play the tapes. Also, Aswad tried to go out with me. All of them. I said no. That’s my Tragically Hip story.
