The FA Cup Final – Everton vs Chelsea

May 29, 2009

Tomorrow Everton play Chelsea in the FA Cup final, and I can barely think of anything else. Tomorrow morning I will clean the hell out my house just for something to do before 3pm.

But we’ve already done our bit, and I’m already proud.

We are in the FA Cup final and that means the world to the fans. Take these two quotes today – from each of the team’s captains.

Phil Neville – Everton:
“I think this club is going in the right direction. We can restore Everton to where it belongs and that is at the top of English football. It is not going to be the end of the journey on Saturday, win or lose. This is just the start.”

Frank Lampard – Chelsea:
“It’s very important we win something for the confidence of the club and take something away from the season. Personally the way I have played, I think it is my best season, and to round it off we do need to win the Cup.”

Chelsea last won the FA Cup against Manchester United in 2007, and that victory remains their last piece of silverware and the start of what their players and fans call a trophy drought, while every Evertonian is just delighted to be there.

Two years ago I went crazy about the finishing in the top seven and qualifying for Europe.  This year we finished fifth.

Here is a picture, and here is what it means.

So we’ve already done it. We’ve done it and more. Chelsea can only lose again.

Whatever happens, Everton will not go home empty handed – and they will go home together.

Awesome! The best wins are the ones you didn’t see coming.
As a NY (American) Football Giants fan, their last Super Bowl Championship in 2007-08 was by far the best b/c no one expected them to be there. They were David taking on Goliath (New England Patriots – who everyone thought would kill them), and it turned out in modern day Arizona as it did in the Good Book – with the little guy defeating the giant.

So I wish your team well and will root along with you.

Cheers.
