My Great English Novel (An Introduction)

June 15, 2009

Hey, how’s it going?

That’s my greeter, by the way. In case you were wondering. Since the redesign, I’ve been thinking of marketing ideas so I thought I’d get a greeter for this blog.

You know, like they have in shops when you go in? “Hi, how are you guys doing today?” That kind of thing. It’s a personal touch.

So I’ve been thinking more and more about writing a story, and I’ve made a start. Check it out:

There was a sky like lead that morning, soft and heavy. Under it sat a boy.

There had been dreams – chances, mostly, and he was burdened as usual, this time by the conviction that many of those ships, dreamboats if you like, had sailed. It was a false notion – most of them had merely slipped their moorings; but there was no telling that to Russell.

Still he faced the future, often with a fixed grin like that of a ballroom dancer, but the main thing is there was a future with him in it.

Let me tell you about Russell Dooley.

How about that shit? Who says there’s not a story in me? Oh yeah, I do.

Well, I’m full of it. Fuck you, me.

Is there anything you’re looking for in particular? This one is a very nice blog post. This one was written today.

The first line was something I wrote on twitter, so why not start a novel that way? I even have a working title:

“Heads Up, Bitches”

Nice, right? Anyway - Monday, and I promised you this week that you’d hear songs you never heard and here’s the first.

The songwriter is someone I know online from a while back and you can catch his band Cure For Static if you’re ever in Boston.

It’s by Jarrett Clayman and it’s full of great chords and has a great natural vibe.

Enjoy California Sky

Bye, thanks a lot.

I like the greeter, nice personal touch. Although him standing in the corner and smiling is a little off-putting…

I was going to listen to the song, but it doesn’t work on Soundclick, it only gives an error. I couldn’t be bothered to sign up just to download one song.

If they let people play in on Soundclick, I don’t see why you couldn’t host it on Vox.

Plus, do tell all about being in the band. And headlining a gig, is that half as cool as it sounds?

Leave a comment. Play nice. I will turn this blog around.
